What made you want to collaborate with Maison Martin Morel on this collection?
I've always been fascinated by this brand with its thousand archives. I met Emmanuel about ten years ago, when I was designing the Maison's clothing collections. When Emmanuel suggested we work together again, I didn't hesitate for a second!
How did you come up with the patterns and colors for Amarante? Can you tell us about it?
For the patterns, I turned my attention to an MM archive book dating from 1912. I selected around ten designs on the theme of paisley. I tried to make them complement and complement each other, while retaining their individuality.
The idea was then to rework them in the manner of a painter, a draftsman, an artist. To take them out of their initial context, to modify the scale, and to introduce bright and warm colors.
How does this collection reflect your world and your artistic signature?
I worked all the motifs by hand, as I usually do for my drawings. I applied the same process as when I paint for the treatment of patterns and colors.
In your opinion, what does beautiful wallpaper bring to an interior?
Absolutely everything! It brings an atmosphere, an ambiance, a vision that beautifies a room.
If you had to describe theAmarante collection in three words, which would you choose and why?
I would say:
Structured : because looking at the collection as a whole, there is a rhythm, the wallpapers interact with each other and respond to each other.
Lively : through the choice of colors and the scale of the patterns.
Subtle : The devil is in the details. Sometimes you have to immerse yourself in the motif to understand the artist's work!"
